Newfoundland And Labrador Holds A New Immigration Draw
Newfoundland and Labrador has selected 140 foreign nationals through its provincial immigration programs, giving successful candidates an opportunity to continue their path toward Canadian permanent residence.
On August 26, the province invited 94 candidates through the Newfoundland & Labrador Provincial Nominee Program (NLPNP) and 46 candidates through the Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP).
Candidates selected through the NLPNP can submit an application for provincial nomination. Those selected through the AIP can move forward with an application for endorsement.
After receiving a nomination or endorsement, candidates can apply to the federal government for permanent residence.
Draw Details
The province did not provide details about the NLPNP streams, occupations, or sectors targeted in the latest selection round. It was the 12th selection round held by Newfoundland and Labrador in 2026.
The latest round had the highest number of AIP invitations since March 6, 2026, when the province held its first selection round of the year. Well, AIP invitations were not included in the previous draw, making the latest return of AIP selections notable.
The latest round also had the lowest NLPNP invitation total since July 28, when 400 candidates were selected through the program.

How To Immigrate Through Newfoundland And Labrador Programs?
Foreign nationals interested in the NLPNP must first submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) through the province’s Immigration Accelerator Portal.
The EOI includes information about education, work experience, language skills, and plans to settle in Newfoundland and Labrador.
Except for the entrepreneur streams, candidates generally need a valid job offer from an employer in the province.
The Office of Immigration and Multiculturalism reviews profiles in the EOI pool and invites candidates based on the province’s immigration and labour needs.
Candidates working in healthcare, living and working outside major urban areas, having French-language skills, or graduating from a post-secondary institution in Newfoundland and Labrador may receive priority. Other factors may also be considered.
Moreover, candidates can review the province’s EOI prioritization criteria for more details about the factors used during selections.
An invitation gives a candidate 60 days to submit a complete application for provincial nomination or endorsement.
For the NLPNP, the candidate submits the application. Under the AIP, the employer is responsible for submitting the endorsement application.
Approved NLPNP candidates receive a provincial nomination certificate, while successful AIP candidates receive an endorsement certificate.
After that, candidates can submit their permanent residence applications to the federal government.
Successful applicants receive a Confirmation of Permanent Residence (COPR).
The latest available federal figures are:
| Application Type | Processing Time (August 10) |
| Base PNP | 13 months |
| Enhanced PNP | 7 months |
| AIP | 26 months |
An EOI remains active for 12 months. If no invitation is received during that period, the candidate must submit a new profile to remain in the selection pool. For the AIP, the employer may need to submit the profile again.
The latest selection shows that Newfoundland and Labrador continues to use both the NLPNP and AIP to attract workers who can support the province’s labour needs. Healthcare, regional employment, French-language skills, and local education remain among the factors that can influence candidate selection.
