Newfoundland & Labrador Invites Provincial Nomination Applicants
On September 10, Newfoundland and Labrador’s Office of Immigration and Multiculturalism issued 36 invitations to apply for provincial nomination.
The invitations were issued through the Newfoundland and Labrador Provincial Nominee Program. Selected candidates can now take another step toward Canadian permanent residence by applying for provincial nomination.
Since June 9, 2026, some provincial nominees applying through the base Provincial Nominee Program can use a faster process to apply for a Bridging Open Work Permit. This federal measure allows eligible applicants to apply before receiving an Acknowledgement of Receipt for their permanent residence application.
Applicants who remain in Canada may be allowed to keep working under maintained status if their current work permit expires while their Bridging Open Work Permit application is being processed.

As of September 10, the province had issued 2,592 invitations through its two immigration programs: 2,198 through the Provincial Nominee Program and 394 through the Atlantic Immigration Program.
The Office of Immigration and Multiculturalism does not identify the specific Provincial Nominee Program streams or employment sectors of candidates selected in each draw.
How To Apply For Permanent Residence Through The Provincial Nominee Program?
Foreign nationals seeking provincial nomination must first submit an Expression of Interest through Newfoundland and Labrador’s Immigration Accelerator Portal.
The profile includes details about a candidate’s education, work experience, language ability, and plans to settle in the province. A qualifying job offer is required for all worker streams.
The provincial office reviews profiles and selects candidates according to its current immigration priorities. It may give preference to healthcare workers, people employed outside major urban centres, French-speaking candidates, and graduates of post-secondary institutions in the province.
Other factors may also affect selection.
After receiving a provincial nomination, candidates can apply to the federal government for permanent residence. If the application is approved, they receive a Confirmation of Permanent Residence.
Current Permanent Residence Application Estimates
| Application Type | Estimated Time As Of September 4 |
| Base Provincial Nominee Program | 13 months |
| Enhanced Provincial Nominee Program | 7 months |
Expressions of Interest remain active in the pool for 12 months. Candidates whose profiles expire without an invitation must submit a new profile to be considered in future draws.
