Alberta Launches A New Tool For AAIP Eligibility Checks
Alberta launches a new tool for AAIP eligibility checks, i.e., Alberta has introduced a new online tool designed to help foreign nationals explore which immigration pathways under the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) may match their situation.
The new digital feature allows users to answer a short series of questions and receive a list of immigration streams that may be suitable based on their responses.
Moreover, the Government of Alberta announced the launch of the Eligibility Explorer on the AAIP updates webpage on June 17.
The tool is designed to give potential applicants a clearer understanding of the provincial immigration options available to them before they submit an Expression of Interest (EOI).
To begin, users must indicate whether they plan to live and work in Alberta, continue working in the province, or start or purchase a business there.
Based on the information provided, the system identifies one or more AAIP streams that may fit the applicant’s circumstances.
After reviewing the suggested pathways, users can learn more about the requirements of each stream and choose whether to create an EOI.
Questions Depend On Immigration Goals
The questions asked by the Eligibility Explorer vary depending on the applicant’s goals.
Individuals interested in working in Alberta are asked about factors such as:
- Job offer details
- Current residency status in Alberta
- Type of work permit, if already living in Alberta
- National Occupational Classification (NOC) code
Those planning to start or buy a business in Alberta receive a different set of questions.
The tool asks about:
- Educational background
- Available investment funds
- Interest in operating a business in a rural community
The province notes that the tool is intended only as a guide.
Using the Eligibility Explorer does not confirm eligibility for an immigration stream and does not guarantee that a candidate will receive an invitation after submitting an EOI.
At the time of publication, applicants must pay a $135 fee to submit a worker EOI.
Entrepreneur stream candidates are required to pay a $200 fee when submitting an EOI.
The Farm Stream follows a different process and does not require an EOI. Instead, applicants submit a direct application and pay a $3,500 application fee.
AAIP Streams Under Which Candidates May Qualify
AAIP Worker Streams
The AAIP currently offers four immigration streams for workers:
- Alberta Opportunity Stream: Qualified candidates who live & work in Alberta & have a job offer from an Alberta employer.
- Alberta Express Entry Stream: Qualified candidates who have profiles in the Express Entry pool with a CRS, i.e., Comprehensive Ranking System score of 300 and a primary occupation connected to a provincial economic, sector, or occupational priority.
- Under this stream, there are four pathways, including the Dedicated Health Care Pathway, Accelerated Tech Pathway, Law Enforcement Pathway, and the Priority Sectors Pathway.
- Rural Renewal Stream: Temporary workers who have a job offer from an Alberta employer in a designated community & an endorsement letter from that designated community.
- Tourism and Hospitality Stream: Qualified applicants who live & work in Alberta & have a full-time job offer from an employer in the province’s tourism and hospitality sector.
AAIP Entrepreneur Streams
The AAIP also operates four immigration streams for entrepreneurs:
- Rural Entrepreneur Stream: Entrepreneurs who wish to start a business or purchase an existing business in a rural Alberta community.
- Graduate Entrepreneur Stream: International graduates of approved Alberta post-secondary institutions who wish to begin a business or purchase an existing business.
- Farm Stream: It includes experienced farmers who plan to buy or establish a farm in Alberta.
- Foreign Graduate Entrepreneur Stream: Foreign graduates who earned a degree from a post-secondary institution outside Canada and want to launch a start-up or innovative business.
Thus, the new Eligibility Explorer gives applicants a clearer way to understand these pathways and identify options that fit their education, work experience, and long-term goals in Alberta.
